Mervyns are one of America’s most
innovative retailers, offering a family orientated, yet
progressive, range of clothing and home furnishings. Founded
in 1949, by Mervin Morris, Mervyns are widely known to have
invented the mid-range style department store, in addition to
have been the first to offer customers revolving credit, to
advertise sales in the newspaper, and the first to focus on
the needs of young families. With 189 department stores across
10 states, Mervyns enjoy a reputation of providing a great mix
of top national brands and exclusive house brands. Today,
Mervyns continue to satisfy their customers’ expectations by
offering style, quality and excellent service, all at
competitive prices.
Regardless of the industry, handling cash is a
time-consuming but necessary process - a process that many
companies have yet to streamline. Mervyns have always been
conscious of this, and had been looking to further improve
their cash counting methods, when Cash Solutions distributors
of Cashmaster counting machines showed up. David Magallon,
Mervyns’ Loss Prevention Manager, comments; “We were
accustomed to friction note counters for counting our daily
takings, but we had stopped counting coins because it was
simply too time consuming to count them. When we reviewed the
Cashmaster machines in action, we immediately identified its
potential – saving time and the ability for our stores to have
accountability for coins once again”
Mervyns seized the opportunity to take advantage of a
100% free, non-obligatory trial, with machines deployed in
four pilot stores across the US. Cash Solutions’ Sales
Director, Jayson Dunston, commented: “The trials we offer
provide prospective customers with the ability to appreciate
exactly what our machines do and what they can achieve, in
direct and fair comparison to both counting by hand and
friction counting machines. We provide all of our customers
with an accurate ROI forecast, which the majority out
perform”. Mervyns were specifically interested in saving time
as well as finding a solution that would allow them to
reintroduce counting coins. “We realised that with over 30
tills per store, we could no longer ignore counting coinage.
We needed a solution, and Cash Solutions provided one with the
Cashmaster Omega 210,” continued David
Magallon.
Jayson Dunston, continued; “The Cashmaster Omega 210
was the ideal model for Mervyns, offering them an all-in-one
solution, capable of counting the entire contents of the cash
register, including coins, in less than one minute”.
Cashmaster machines count over 500 coins in 0.5 seconds and
100 bills in 5 seconds, achieving a time saving (through
payroll) which positively affects bottom line profits. The
Omega 210 was selected to provide the company with the ability
to count multiple tills with one machine in addition to
offering advanced float and safe count
features.
Mervyns currently use the machines in their cash
offices, but have foreseen an opportunity to interface the
machines with a new POS system in the near future. This
feature would allow Mervyns to instantly compare till count
data with POS data, automatically identifying any
discrepancies. Mervyns employed a standard ROI model to
measure the effectiveness of the Omega 210 (taking into
account time saved during float preparation, skimming/daily
deposits, cashing up and banking) equipping each store with a
machine and in the process replacing friction note counting
machines. The results confirmed that the Cashmaster machines
provided a rapid ROI, successfully embraced in both large and
small sized stores.
Cash Solutions and Cashmaster are proud to work with
Mervyns and look forward to providing with them with all of
their future cash handling
requirements. |
